day fiftysix 2.25.2010

so it just keeps snowing here! it's been a couple days straight and it hasn't stopped yet. here's a picture taken from smack in the middle of main street in my cute little town.

day fiftyfive 2.24.2010

day fiftyfour 2.23.2010

Was out walking Murphy today and found this, my first initial, written in the snow in footprints at foundry dock park.

day fiftythree 2.22.2010

flying home and approaching jfk. there was some serious turbulance, so i couldn't read; only listen to music. it reminded me of that bjork song where she sings about being on a plane "my headphones; they saved my life"

day fiftytwo 2.21.2010

went to lunch at my favorite multicolored fish place in nassau. they have great conch fritters and broiled grouper, and you get to sit under one of these thatched umbrella thingys and sip sky juice (coconut water and gin, perhaps my favorite beverage ever). i love any place that uses more colors to paint the joint than you can count on one hand.

day fiftyone 2.20.2010

went to the beach today and on my way back to the ship i spotted this beach wheelchair. never seen one of those before!

day fifty 2.19.2010

What better way to celebrate 50 days of photoblogging than with chanpagne? This is my mom opening a bottle of the bubbly stuff on the first night of a mini-break with my sisters and my aunt. the cork shot across her room, ending up in the bathtub. cheers!

day fortynine 2.18.2010

on the bus from grand central to la guardia. sometimes queens can seem strange and beautiful. i have no idea what that building is for or why it's shaped like that-

day fortyeight 2.17.2010

this flyer was on the column in the lobby of the fine arts building at suny new paltz. kinda love it-

day fortyseven 2.16.2010

Went to see Kim and her piece at the opening at the National Academy Museum in NYC. It is one of those beautiful, stately, old buildings in Manhattan with lots of marble and winding staircases. As I descended the stairs, i noticed these cast shadows from the handrails in front of me.

day fortysix 2.15.2010

some people tout their patriotism on the fourth of july, but i dust mine off and put it on display every winter olympics. go team usa! i love the snowboarding, both for the sport and the cool outfits burton always dresses our team in. if you haven't seen the snowboard pants that look like worn jeans the snowboarders are wearing yet, check them out! also, every time i find a new sport i've never seen before to be obsessed with. eight years ago it was curling, four years ago it was snowboardcross, this year it's the mogul event. good times.

day fortyfive 2.14.2010

nothing says valentine's day like a trip to the farmer's market! one of my favorite vendors sells pickles and cabbage and seitan and lots of other yummy things in canning jars. i affectionately refer to them as the jar ladies. their stuff is delicious, and they are some of murphy's biggest fans to boot, so they can do no wrong in my book. here you can see some of their mustard, radishes, sesame cabbage, and pickles for sale.

day fortyfour 2.13.2010

spent the afternoon in the city, first as part of a panel discussion at a career conference, then gallery hopping with nate, jc, casey and margaret. as nate and i rode off in to the sunset to get home to walk murphy, i took this picture of the george washington bridge from the new jersey side.

day fortythree 2.12.2010

reflection on the windows of the ceramics studio at SUNY New Paltz. this is what i see on my way to check my mailbox-

day fortytwo 2.11.2010

got a new haircut today-i asked him to give me the same haircut as the wig uma therman is wearing on the movie poster for pulp fiction! i wanted that hair when the movie came out, but i was under the belief that i couldn't rock bangs. i took this picture in the faculty bathroom in the smiley art building, so for those of you wondering what a faculty bathroom looks like, here you go. as i pushed the button, one of the art history professors started to come in. i always feel like they are "real" professors because they are so serious all the time, so i quickly stashed the camera.

day fortyone 2.10.2010

Snow day! Murphy likes to sniff in the snow a lot, ending up with a snowy nose that cracks me up!

day forty 2.9.2010

after looking at the space between frost and ice so much lately, it's changed how i look at other examples in nature that have that kind of trapped negative space, figure/ground kind of relationship. these roots seem to do the same sort of thing.

day thirtynine 2.8.2010

not sure what this is about! it's on the wall in the building i teach at at new paltz, by the art education classrooms. i thought it was amusing-

day thirtyeight 2.7.2010

Zoe Fagioli reviewing her Super Bowl bets. She won $25 at half time. I just hope this doesn't become a habit. Once she starts stealing our keys and heading out to OTB, it's all over!

Saturday, February 6, 2010

day thirtyseven 2.6.2010

one of my favorite pieces of grafitti/public art in beacon, ny

day thirtysix 2.5.2010

went out to dinner last night w nate and colleen from huntington. brought my camera. i could call this "self-portrait while waiting for a veggie burger"

Friday, February 5, 2010

day thirtyfive 2.4.2010

when the hudson river freezes, the coast guard sends ice breaker boats up and down the river to keep the shipping channel clear. sometimes the ice chunks up and then re-freezes. i think it looks like a choppy day out on the river frozen in time.

day thirtyfour 2.3.2010

On tuesdays and wednesdays, i get to drive on this pretty winding road on my way to work. it doesn't matter what season it is, it's always beautiful and it reminds me of why i love living in the hudson valley so much. we got a bit of snow last night and everything had that lovely light powdery wonderland coating. i probably shouldn't take photos while driving, though.

day thirtythree 2.2.2010

Trying to keep my motivation rolling now that I am back from Vermont, and starting with paper models (i do love paper models so!) My studio at VSC was WAY bigger than my space at home. I didn't even fully realize it until I saw the drawings i did on a roll in my house. they are much larger than i realized while i was making them in vermont! luckily, i have lots of drawers and shelves in my home studio. if you can't spread out, spread up, right? in the background you can see some of the bracelets i made while at the vermont studio center.

day thirtytwo 2.1.2010

Since yesterday was a picture of Murphy, it seems only fair that today be a picture of the cat. This is Zoe Fagioli, my narcissistic 7 year old cat that was rescued from Shakespeare's Garden in Central Park when she was a tiny kitten. In fact, she hasn't sat in the bathroom sink like this since she was a kitten until today.

day thirtyone 1.31.2010

Murphy (in the back) and his BFF Chief (in the front) sharing a toy Nate made out of old climbing rope. You didn't think I could go a whole month without posting a picture of one of my pets, did you?
