day onehundred fortyseven 5.27.2010

i can personally guarantee there are at least three 4-leaf clovers in this picture. can you find them?

day onehundred fortysix 5.26.2010

i came across these flowers in front of a neighbor's house. they are five petaled, small yellow kinda-mountain laurel-y looking. from the side it looks like an organic, this way that way, growth pattern but from directly overhead it is surprisingly symmetrical and stacked.

More fun with the macro lens! It's been unseasonably hot here, and murphy has been panting like mad. this is what his freakishly long tongue looks like up close. also, i have found may to be the best time of year for finding 4 leaf clovers. I've been averaging a few a day, but today was the first 5 leaf clover find of the season!

day onehundred fortyfour 5.24.2010

put the macro lens back on my camera today. it's been a while! here's zoe fagioli, up close and personal.

day onehundred fortythree 5.23.2010

a very cool sign on route 9w on the stretch between highland and newburgh. one of the colleens has always wanted to take photos of all the retro motel signage along this strip of road. perhaps there can be a chapter for dairy bars!

day onehundred forty two 5.22.2010

my niece annie is turning two, and enjoys birthday cupcakes. isn't she awesome?

day onehundred forty one 5.21.2010

it's the night before a party on the farm for elly, steve, luke and annie. i looked in on my nephew sleeping and found this. i especially love the foot up in the air! (and yes, his head is hanging off the side)

day onehundred and forty 5.20.2010

nate asked me recently if my blog was going to be only pictures of murphy and a stick in all seasons. here he is rolling on his back and playing with a stick at the same time.

a couple of pillows my cousin susie gave me that she designed for ralph lauren's home collection-

Walk? Don't walk?? I'm so confused! it rained all day today; is it possible some precipitation shorted out the crosswalk signs in chelsea?

day onehundred thirtyseven 5.17.2010

there was a pile of rocks on a coffee table in front of the library and coffee shop on campus at new paltz with a few silver sharpies and a message encouraging people to write secrets that have been weighing on them like a rock on one of the stones.

day onehundred thirtysix 5.16.2010

brownstone in harlem with the door and all the windows sealed with cement. i thought it looked like a Rachel Whiteread piece in process.

day onehundred thrity five 5.15.2010

murphy decided to take a nap in the middle of the pile of laundry i was folding-

day onehundred thirtyfour 5.14.2010

the lovely and rare american elms along the mall in central park. many of these trees were wiped out across the country years ago, but because these trees in central park were so isolated by being surrounded by an urban landscape they were protected and survived.

elly and mom came up today for lunch at the apple pie bakery at the culinary institute of america and a walk across the river on the walkway across the hudson. this was the fantastic red velvet cupcake that we split after our meal.

day onehundred thirtytwo 5.12.2010

it doesn't really feel like summer out, but this heap of watermelons in the market says otherwise-

day onehundred thirtyone 5.11.2010

one of my neighbor's flowers; I've never seen this kind before. i have no idea what it is; it looks like a pink poppy to me.

day onehundred thirty 5.10.2010

i went poking around the former Julia Butterfield Memorial Hospital and took some photos of the space. this is from the window in to the former paramedic training institute there. this hospital has been abandoned for years and years, but when nate and i first moved to cold spring 6 years ago, it was still on the maps we had brought with us. nate was rock climbing and got stung on the eyelid by a yellowjacket. my car had a flat tire and nate's car was stickshift, and i don't drive standard. i convinced him to do the driving because according to the maps the hospital was just up the street. when we got there we discovered it was desolate and definitely not a place of healing any more. turns out the hospital is almost a half hour away, and nate had to drive the whole way there and back with one good eye.

day onehundred twentynine 5.9.2010

i made a mistake with the folders i made for the photos from yesterday and today, so these pictures are actually from yesterday's dog parade in cold spring. murphy spent most of the contest part seeking respite in the shade of the putnam humane society's table while the dogs in costumes competed for prizes. there was one dog who dragged a miniature chariot behind him all down main street.

day one hundred twenty eight 5.8.2010

sometimes when i come home, i scoop up zoe and she climbs up on my shoulder like a parrot on the shoulder of a pirate. sometimes she continues over my shoulder, and sits on my back. i usually walk, folded over, to the couch to see how long she'll stay that way.

day onehundred twenty seven 5.7.2010

some creepy looking plastic dolls in the window of a store in beacon

day onehundred twenty six 5.6.2010

nothing makes a bed cozier than a cat lying on it! every time i leave for work, zoe takes up the vigorous job of napping all day. it's a division of labor-

day onehundred twentyfive 5.5.2010

one of the upstate ny sights on my commute

day onehundred twentyfour 5.4.2010

metro north changes the train schedules once a year or so. nate was taking a different train to work than his usual, but they had just changed the schedules a couple of weeks ago, so the 8:25 became the 8:20, and nate missed his train. after we watched it chug south without him on it, we spent the next hour at foundry dock park, throwing sticks in the river for murphy to go swim out and occasionally bring back. the light on the dandelions was pretty spectacular-

day onehundred twenty three 5.23.2010

it's been extremely warm here and the spring flowers have been blooming all over the place, maybe a bit ahead of schedule. here are some purple ones near my home. love this color, especially against the green.

day one hundred twenty two 5.2.2010

nate took this picture on our way to a neighbor's house. around town i am known as that girl with the three legged dog. for five years, i was nearly invisible in this tiny town, but my favorite hopping long-eared accessory has changed all that.

day onehundred twentyone 5.1.2010

had a great breakfast at a great diner (one of those cool ones that used to be a train car) with great people. do saturday mornings come any better than that?

day one hundred twenty 4.30.2010

nate and i drove down to philadelphia today to catch a mets vs phillies game and see the phanatic in person. had to pick up gifts for our philly friends on the way from one of the quarter machines in new jersey.
